It was installed along with an electric brake assist in late April 2011 by the Boyd Family at Dale Mabry Hitches on Dale Mabry Highway Tampa FL, just past Gandy.
This means when it caught on fire November 8, 2011 which could have resulted in a disaster to myself, anyone around me and maybe even a whole city block, not to mention my mode of transportation, it was likely still under factory warranty. AT LEAST. Most are a year long.
When I called the owner of Dale Mabry Hitches, Jim Boyd, he claimed he had never (in 42 years in the trailer repair and hitch business) ever heard of anything like that. Hmmmm. Cause I called two U-hauls and both said entire cars and rigs and trailers and other hauled items have burnt to the ground over these wiring issues.
He blamed it on a faulty trailer hookup. Only five other rigs have been hooked to that camper and I did verify that NOT ONE of them had caught on fire.
Refused to stand by a factory warranty. Wanted 80 dollars to replace it. Priced the entire wiring system he pulled out from under my car on his lift and it cost 24 dollars !!!! So he is charging labor to replace something he put on my car which actually CAUGHT ON FIRE and could have killed people.
Outrageous.
Come to find out, the owner Jim Boyd has been sued MANY times.

Then he stopped responding to emails when I pointed out that his synopsis of a "bad trailer" was impossible. As yknow.. no one ELSE'S car had caught on fire who had hauled my camper.
I agree. These guys are Jerks, and dishonest to boot!
ReplyDeleteBoth my Father and I had trailer light packages installed by them. Both vehicles lost brake lights with in a couple days. When we took the cars back on two seperate incidents, Jim's Son tried to charge a service charge to look at their own faulty work! And both times said it was a brake switch. Turned out it was their cheap product and inability to trouble shoot their own work. Jim Boyd Is a douchebag who thinks trailer repair is rocket science. They are extremely condescending to their customer! You can easily stand at the counter for 30 minutes...with no one else in the store. Horrible business!
